About this deal

Fixings from Metex simplify the decision making process through education by showing the compatible wall materials and safe working load for each fixing, allowing the user to make an informed and confident purchase. Each wall plug has enough depth to fill the gap between plasterboard and wall to transfer the load to the brick wall behind for a safe and secure hold. But as the term "hollow wall" has started to become used to describe what is more accurately a dot and dab or stud wall, then the term hollow wall anchor has also become extended to cover rawl plugs as well. This highly effective and innovative product was developed to safely secure heavy loads including cabinets and brackets to dot and dab plasterboard walls or board supported on battens. In fact Corefix has been independently tested to 100kgs loading* and has safely held 250kg in our own internal tests*.

But I always make sure that the screw is long enough to make the plug grips (you must clean the hole, I use a turkey baster), and have enough for the thickness of the item. Furthermore, their core is held within the wall plug and so itself provides additional lateral support that the pipe/broom method doesn't. This means that Corefix can safely support heavy loads – 100kg (independently tested) and over 200kg in-house tested. See the FAQs below for the difference between a stud wall and a dot and dab wall – the future of your shiny new wall mounted TV might depend on it! Cobra Anchors are the leading wall fixings manufacturer in the USA and Canada and distribute internationally. There are some additional workarounds possible though - adding something to transfer the clamping force required to the masonry behind so that the screw doesn't deflect downwards under the load of the mounted item and the board doesn't deflect towards the wall due to the clamping force. This is because, unlike the rawl plug and screw solution, Corefix bridges the gap between the plasterboard and the solid wall behind it, so ensuring that the load is spread between the plasterboard and the solid wall. The phrase "hollow wall" is creeping into the English language (mainly via the internet) so you might see the term "hollow wall anchors" referred to in connection with internal stud wall / dot and dab wall fixings. and I’d worry in the event of a child pulling/wobbling event, and play in the fixing may slowly bring it loose. Corefix is a unique heavy duty fixing system for dot and dab wall construction, a method used almost exclusively in the UK’s new build homes.

Corefix prevents this issue by transferring the load directly to the solid masonry by way of the steel insert. Corefix is part of the Metex range of innovate products designed for the construction and pest control sectors.Rails seem very sturdy with no wobble which I had on a previous rail fitted with normal plugs and screws.

The plugs have a flange around the entry hole to prevent the plug from disappearing into the drilled hole when you tap in the steel tube. Further it lets me now contemplate stuff like floating shelves knowing my fixing will be spot on, and not have one sag or hold a shelf not dead flat etc. And I might want a bit of overhead on my fixing, so it’s getting on for an 80mm long fixing and 85mm deep hole. They are fitted like a standard brick wall fixing, but the metal bridge piece solves the dot and dab problem. Tap the steel core home until flush with the plug, then install your bracket using the supplied screw. When you are happy the plug is secure, either with or without grab adhesive (your decision), tap home the tube and attach your fitting with the screw. Corefix Plus30 (Yellow) has a longer 120mm screw for securing fixtures of up to 30mm deep (eg wooden battens). I’m at about 30mm before I get to a block, and assume I’d want another 40mm into that to hold a rawl plug.

Fischer Duopower plugs are the best I've used in the crumbly thermolite blocks that tend to get used these days. With the screws (5 x 100 mm) provided you can only mount things up to 10 mm thick on the wall but with longer screws (I bought some 5 x 120 mm) you can do up to 30 mm. This will depend a lot on what is behind your plasterboard wall and what fixings you are going to use. I've used appropriate lengths of 15mm copper pipe or, for heavier loads such as large radiators, slices of a broom handle (with a hole drilled through the centre) to do this and it works perfectly fine.

Check out some YouTube videos of them, the trick is in the massive surface area that they have to hold the back of the plasterboard. Due to its unique construction, Corefix is ideal for a range of wall boards as the steel core transfers the load directly to the solid masonry behind. Specially designed for dot and dab walls, Corefix wall fixings include a durable steel core that transfers the load directly to the solid wall behind, preventing the plasterboard from crushing under the weight of your fixture. The best plasterboard fixing to use, if you have masonry behind the plasterboard and need to support a heavy weight, would be the Corefix fixing.
