About this deal

Unlike the more modern Old Trafford stadium, with different levels, modern roof, and square footprint, I really enjoyed the curves of the Bernabeu – the design (maybe its the tan), reminded me a lot of arenas like the Colosseum, where gladiators did battle. My wife graciously did most of the heavy lifting with this set, building about 70% of the set while I was at work today, and somehow, we managed to finish it in time to take some photos (although not with natural sunlight as I prefer), and smash out this review. Buy if you’re a Real Madrid fan, or if you appreciate large-scale LEGO builds, and stadium architecture. Do not buy for Atletico Madrid, or Barcelona fans. It would make an excellent splurge, or extravagant gift for the Real Madrid fan in your life. During the build, I couldn’t help but appreciate that once you look past the Real Madrid license, and hype around the world’s game, 10299 Santiago Bernabeu is really a large-scale LEGO Architecture set.

When put side by side, the architectural differences, and colours are really apparent – Santiago Bernabeu is an icon of the football world, and I really like the softer curves, and architectural features of the facade, compared to Old Trafford which looks really modern, and has more of an English stadium vibe, compared to the Bernabeu’s European charm. There is no getting around that 10299 Real Madrid – Santiago Bernabéu Stadium feels overpriced, particularly in comparison to two equally-as-good stadiums that it will now sit next to on shelves. It delivers in every way you could hope such a LEGO set could, and there’s nothing to find fault in, even in the LEGO Group and Real Madrid’s decision to base the design on how the stadium last looked in 2019 and how it won’t look from the end of 2022 onwards. Real Madrid – Santiago Bernabéu Stadium is a loving, authentic recreation that dives deep into the details of the stadium and captures not only every aspect of architecture that makes it such a unique home, but also a sense of that history and wonder too. I remember hearing statistics that the Old Trafford set did not sell well, and I believe that applies to Barcelona too. I'm not sure where I can find the statistics, but I remember hearing that a lot from multiple people" It’s satisfying to say, three stadiums into this collection, that the way you think building 10299 Real Madrid – Santiago Bernabéu Stadium will go is probably not the way it will actually go. It’s these unusual and unexpected ways of putting together the stadium that also have a way of drawing you in further to understand exactly what detail you’ve just added – because of the risk of an otherwise formulaic, cookie-cutter build experience, 10299 Real Madrid – Santiago Bernabéu Stadium is smart in ways other LEGO sets don’t have to be, and it’s all the better for it.books – great if you enjoy building with someone else, and I really found this quite beneficial as it greatly removes much of the repetition of the build, if you’re able to share the load with someone else. Each quadrant of the stadium can be built independently, with only a few steps at the end of each half to connect them together. Book 2 even starts over at step one, something I haven’t seen recently as LEGO switched away from sub-assemblies with their own numbering. While the set doesn’t have the Build Together branding, it’s easy to have two people building, one with each book – and given the similar structures of each quarter, it lessens some of the repetition as well. The LEGO® Real Madrid – Santiago Bernabéu Stadium set coincides with the club’s 120 th anniversary and the 75 th anniversary of the iconic grounds. The impressive set features over 5,800 pieces and has been designed to be the ultimate display piece for Real Madrid C.F. and LEGO fans — and to symbolise the spectacular pride felt by fans watching a match take place at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium. A must-have for any Madrid supporter?s club room, view all of the iconic details under the bright stadium lights of one of the world?s most famous football pitches!

Bernabéu captained Real Madrid in the 1920s before a brief stint as manager, and then his most important role as club president for 35 years, which he held until his death in 1978. Bernabéu is heralded as one of Madrid’s most influential people in the club’s history, overseeing its restructure with methods that would inform and influence modern club football across the game – and that included construction of the stadium that is named after him. Building it is very much in-keeping with construction of 10272 Old Trafford – Manchester United and 10284 Camp Nou – FC Barcelona before it, in sections that slot into place around the pitch. This is from the very, very many numbered bags that confront you at the start of the entire process, all the way through to slowly building a quarter of the stadium from the foundations up. Today the LEGO Group reveals a stunning homage to one of the most beloved football teams in the world — the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, a faithful replica of the home of Real Madrid.

Our difference

Real Madrid fans feeling nostalgic about the redevelopment of the Santiago Bernabeu stadium will be able to recreate its former, iconic look themselves after LEGO released a construction kit to coincide with the 75th anniversary of the LaLiga club's ground. The pillars that curve inwards are particularly pleasing to the eye, as is the very liberal use of curved slopes and collumns throughout the entrance. The use of colour is fantastic as well, with trans-light blue being used for glass windows to break up the otherwise stoic looking tan columns and pillars.
